Fine Art
Already, Not Yet
What does it mean to live in the mystery of the in-between? This series of cyano-lumen prints make up Malik’s first solo art show and largest showcase of work, exhibited at Gallery 44’s Members Gallery in Toronto, Nov 2025-Jan 2026.
Reflections on Belonging
Where you were once from never quite leaves you. This series of in-camera double exposures capture fallen leaves on snow and the tree branches they fell from. This project was originally made as a photo book for a course at OCAD U.
Bleach Experiments
At OCAD University, I took a course called Experimental Processes: Photography, in which I created this series of bleached prints. This series explores how specific elements of photographs change meaning when their surroundings are altered.
Homes
When you remember somewhere you live, what do you think of? This three part series of collages portray a mind-map of what I remember and imagine when reflecting on my past and current homes in France, Senegal, and Canada. Combining personal images, text, and drawings, I form complex and nostalgic pieces.
Days of Creation
This series of toned cyanotype prints illustrate the six days of Creation as described in Genesis 2. Using historical alternative photographic processes including natural toners (such as coffee, tea, and wine), the prints have a range of toning effects.
Living Africa
A collection of images from the years I’ve lived in Senegal, West Africa and trips to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
In 2013, my family moved to Dakar, Senegal. My experiences in Africa over the next 3.5 years have greatly influenced how I see the world.
Family History
In 2017, my grandparents sold their farmhouse property. As my grandparents moved to the city, I created Family History as a gift to honour their old home. Going through decades of family photos, scanning film, and working with the images in fabric and thread deepened my understanding of my Canadian roots.
